Weekly Roundup
Friday, March 16th, 2007The company HiTechnic will soon be releasing a Gyro Sensor Block for Mindstorms NXT-G. This brick will allow builders to do several things. For one, you will be able to build a balancing robot similar to the Segway. Check out the video of Roy Watanbe’s balancing robot from Engadget. Chris Anderson from Wired magazine is also all set to use the new Gyro Sensor Block once it comes out. He will be creating an autopilot drone with this. Sounds like an episode of 24. Where’s Jack Bauer? Check it out at longatail.
| Over at Cornell University Josh Bongard, Victor Zykov, and Hod Lipson are busy creating self modeling robots. Seen here is the Starfish robot. This robot can compensate or change its gait if damage should occur. This is the first robot I’ve seen that actually has a concept of itself. In the video at their website Cornell CCSL they show the robot walking before and after they remove a leg. |
