Robot Shorts

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Check out two really cool items over at Wired.

First up is an article about an MIT professor. He has been videotaping everything his son has been doing from the day he was born. I mean everything! Terabytes of data monthly. This information will be used to study how humans learn and then hopefully fed to one of his robots, so that they can learn better.

Second up is a awesome short movie by Neill Blomkamp called Tempbot, about - you guessed it - a robotic office temp. Here is the movie. This terminator style robot has trouble adjusting to office politics.

Tempbot reminds me of the movie Robot Stories. Four shorts all about different robots. One story is about a couple wanting to adopt a child. Before being allowed to adopt, they must practice on a robotic baby to interesting results. In a second short, an office installs a robotic temp who is left alone at night.
