Carnegie Mellon University announced today at the Robo Business Conference its new inductees into the Robot Hall of Fame. The inductees are the Raibert Hopper, Data from Star Trek, NavLab 5 and Lego Mindstorms. The Raibert Hopper was created by Marc Raibert in the 1980′s and was a study in balance as the robot had to continually keep moving or it would fall over. Lieutenant Commander Data is a character from Star Trek the Next Generation played by actor Brent Spiner. NavLab 5 was a van modified to drive autonomously developed at Carnegie Mellon. Similar vehicles now compete in the DARPA Challenge. And last, but not least, we have Lego Mindstorms. These are robots that are quickly built by using legos to add on components. A central programmable lego brick acts as the brain. Congratulations to all the inductees.
