Weekly Robot Roundup - Robots are Exspenive

wakamuMitsubishi Heavy Industries has started renting out it’s Wakamu robots shown on your left. The yellow robot acts a receptionist and sports an impressive 10,000 word vocabulary. Also noted is that the robot will never call in sick. The robot rents for 120,00 yen or $1,000 a day. The body looks kind of cool, but the face needs some work. It looks too much like an insect or bug. See article here.

Up next is MDARS (Mobile Detection Assessment Response System). This 3,500 pund robot will be used by the military as a security guard. It can travel at around 20 MPH while avoiding obstacles and sending back radar and infrared pictures to a control station. The robots cost $400,000 each. See the full story at armytimes.com .mdars
