Solar Powered Weed Finding Robot
By admin. Filed in Robot News |
No, not that kind of weed. This solar powered robot from the University of Illinois is used to locate weeds that are harmful to crops.
The robot is 2 feet tall, five feet long and travels at about 3 miles per hour. The robot also sports an 80 gigabyte hard drive and uses GPS for navigation.
After a weed has been identified the robot cuts it down and applies herbicide directly to the remaining portion of the weed.
Pictured here is Hong Young Jeon, a PhD candidate who is working on the robot along with Lei Tian and Nathanael Gingrich.
