Published August 14th, 2008 in Robot News
The students at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh Scotland have created an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UAV).
They have also entered and won the Student Autonomous Underwater Challenge - Europe (SAUC-E), besting 5 other teams. The challenge was held in France this year.
The team also won the THALES Special Award for innovation in autonomy, taking home €11,000.
Their robot named Nessie III was able to autonomously complete all the competition tasks which included touching a buoy, dropping markers on a target and making a complete map of the competition area.
Now they just need to make an underwater map of Loch Ness to see if there really is a monster living there.
