A press conference on 4/21/09 from the Carnegie Science Center has given us four major tidbits of information about Roboworld, otherwise known as robonirvana. First , they have named the greeting robot, second they told us about the exhibits, third they announced new inductees into the Robot Hall of Fame and lastly they announced a dance contest.
Wow – that’s a lotta info, so here goes.
Roboworld is a 6,000 sq ft exhibition hall located at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburg that is opening on June 13.
The robothespian or greeting robot is named Andy. I guess this is one naming contest Stephen Colbert didn’t win.
Included in amongst the exhibition will be 3 games. You will be able to shoot hoops, play foosball and air hockey, all against robots!
There will also be an exhibit featuring YouTube star Keepon and a robot that will make a picture you draw by re-creating it out of marbles.
Also announced were the following 2010 inductees into the Robot Hall of Fame:
1. Mars rovers Spirit & Opportunity
2. Roomba
3. DaVinci Medical Robot System
4. Huey, Dewey & Louie from the 1971 film Silent running
5. T-800 Terminator from the 1984 film the Terminator
Roboworld also introduced a robot dance contest. Just fill out the online form and send in a video of yourself dancing like a robot to enter. The winner will take away $500, an overnight stay at the Sheraton Station Square and a roboworld prize pack. You have until May 26 to do your best robot dance.
See our previous post on Roboworld here.
We certainly will have a trip to Pittsburgh in our future!
