Einstein Robot Learns to Smile

Researchers at The University of California San Diego are teaching a robotic Einstein to smile.
Einstein’s face has over 30 muscles moved by servos to create different facial expressions.
When one servo recently burned out, other nearby servos learned to compensate for the missing motor to create the proper facial expressions.
Tingfan Wu, a computer science PhD student at the university states:
As far as we know, no other research group has used machine learning to teach a robot to make realistic facial expressions.
