The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research and Tokai Rubber Industries Ltd has created a nurse robot called RIBA, or Robot for Interactive Body Assistance.
RIBA hs been given a friendly bear like face and has the ability to lift up to 61 kilograms or 135 pounds. Now this weight may be fine for Japanese people, but if they ever hope to bring this to the United States, they will need to make it lift heavier people.
RIBA also responds to voice commands and has omni-directional wheels that allow it to operate in tight spaces.
