Power Line Inspection Robot

A robot called Expliner is being developed by Japanese company HiBot. The purpose of this robot is to inspect high power lines.
Normally this dangerous task is done by humans and involves having to turn off the juice first.
Now Japans 80 year old power lines can be safely inspected by this robot without turning off the electicity. The robot hangs suspended from the cable and can easily overcome obstacles like cable spacers. Expliner has been successfully tested with live lines of up to 500 kilovolts.
