Robotic Penguin For Girls

By Chief Robot | Filed in Robot News, Toys

504x_IMG_9820Bossa Nova Robotics is a Pittsbrugh based company that has just unleashed two new robots.

Like most robotic  stuff in Pittsburgh the company has its roots in Carnegie Mellon University.

Shown here is Penbo, the robotic penguin, the other robot is called Prime 8 Gorilla and aimed at boys.

What can we say.  It is pink. It is a penguin and has a baby called Bebe. Both respond to stimulation like your voice and your touch.

Both robots should be available soon through Amazon.

Video after the break.

Sega Dream Cat

By Chief Robot | Filed in Household, Toys

sega_dream_cat_venus_1-480x360First their was Dream Cat Smile, now Sega has upgraded the cat to Dream Cat Venus.

The new robot kitty responds to touch as well as voice commands and comes with a plastic comb for grooming.  The litter box is not included.

For some reason Sega is calling these cats Norwegian Forest Cats.  Were not sure, but maybe the Google translator mangled the Norwegian to Japanese translation.  Well, that really isn’t the case as Norwegian Forest Cats are actually real.

The cat will be available in Japan after 7/30 for about $110. No word on why Sega can’t get past the whole uncanny valley thing with its robo pets.

Click  through for a video from a year ago of one of the cats.

Skyhopper By FlyTech

By Chief Robot | Filed in Robot News, Toys

skyhopper

WowWee’s FlyTech Skyhopper is similar to their Dragonfly.  This flying toy will allow you to easily back out of tight space and can be launched from your hand.

No word on when it will be available as it is currently at the FCC.

The Dragonfly currently sells for $20, so hopefully Skyhopper will have a similar price.

Check out the manual here (PDF).

By Chief Robot | Filed in Animals, Robot News, Toys

pleoIs everyone’s favorite robotic dinosaur Pleo coming back?

Jetta Company Limited is the company that originally produced all of the parts for Pleo.  They recently bought all of the intellectual property rights to Pleo when Ugobe had it’s bankruptcy sale.

Below is part of the original press release.

Jetta Company Limited acquires Ugobe out of receivership

Hong Kong – Jetta Company Limited acquired the assets of Ugobe and will be re-launching “Pleo” in the near future. Established in 1977, Jetta has focused on manufacturing an extended range of toy, consumer electronics, juvenile, robotic and gift products and is one of the most recognized engineering and OEM companies within the toy industry. Headquartered in Hong Kong, Jetta currently operates five production campuses in Guangdong Province which combined has over 4.5 million square feet of production floor space. At the forefront of the fast-paced toy and robotics industries, Jetta continues to strive for “excellence” and is pleased to add “Ugobe” to its operations.

Robots Rule have spoken with Steve Ohler, who is the United States  liaison for Jetta Company and confirmed that they want to bring Pleo back.  No timeframe has yet been given.

Kauzbots

By Chief Robot | Filed in Toys

kruzmain2_mediumKauzbots is a team of friends who are passionate about inspiring kids and adults to change the world – one kause at a time.

Shown here is Kruz, the robot passionate about clean water.  A portion of his sale goes to Lifewater, an organization that provides clean water to people all over the world.

Other robots and causes are available.

Kruz is available now for only $24.99.

While this is a great idea, I wish more than only 10% of the proceeds were going to the selected charitys.
