Dirk Vander Kooij, winner of the Dutch Design Award 2011 for best autonomous design, has created a line of furniture made by a robot. The furniture is made from recycled plastic from old refrigerators.
Using an industrial Fanuc robot and by melting the plastic, the furniture is built up layer by layer. A chair can be made in 3 hours. The plastic can be tinted into a variety of colors.
Dirk has created a line of furniture called Endless. The furniture line includes a low chair, dining chair, rocking chair, large table.
The robot will also be on display for Milan Furniture Week April 17-22 in an event by Domus.
Check out Dirk explaining his creation and the robot in action in the video below.
