MIT Hosts Sweeping The Nation

recyclerobotThis week on May 6 and may 7,  MIT will host a contest called Sweeping the Nation.  The contest is a recycling challenge using robots built from a kit.

This is actually a required course for mechanical engineering students going back 20 years.

Each student is given an identical kit.  They must then build a robot capable of picking up soda cans and putting the cans into a recycle bin.  More points are awarded if the robot can also crush the can.

The the finals will be held this Thursday evening, starting at 7 p.m., at the Johnson Athletic Center’s ice rink.

The event can be seen live via webcast from MIT cable tv.
