Robot Responds To Gestures
By Chief Robot. Filed in Research, Robot News, Science |Researchers at Brown University in Rhode Island have created a robot that follows human gestures.
The group started with an iRobot Packbot and added extras like a depth imaging camera.
The robot follows the user a a set distance and responds to gestures that mean follow, halt and wait.
Swear based gestures like giving it the middle finger don’t appear to work so far, but maybe they can build that in.
The team doing the research is led by Chad Jenkins, assistant professor of computer science at Brown University. The research was funded in part by (DARPA IPTO).
