Robot Solves Sudoko Puzzles

toyrobottosoA robot created out of Lego Mindstorms  pieces can solve Sudoko puzzles.

The robot uses an optical sensor to scan the puzzle one line at a time.  The blurry images are then converted to black and white binary images to improve sharpness.

Then the images are thinned out to make them more readable.

Using width, number of tips and tip direction as guidelines, the robot then determines what number each image is.

The robot then solves the puzzle using some complex math we would never understand and proceeds to fill in the answers with a marker.

Now if only the numbers in the puzzle were something useful, like how to solve our national debt, then this robot would be a real winner.
