SCRATCHbot
SCRATCHbot is a project from the University of Bristol in England.
Using 18 whiskers that move back and forth 5 times per second, the makers have given SCRATCHbot its own version of night vision. This allows the robot to detect the edges of objects and avoid them.
The researchers based this robot on rats and used high speed photography to capture and track rats whiskers behavior.
They hope to one day deploy the robot in dark mines or smoky rooms for search and rescue missions.
