STARMAC Robotic Helecopter
Meet STARMAC (The Stanford Testbed of Autonomous Rotorcraft for Multi-Agent). A five person team from Stanford has been designing quadrotor helicopters that fly on their own.
They are using algorithms to let series of helicopters communicate with each other as well as avoid obstacles while flying.
Each helicopter uses GPS and has an on board computer containing the algorithms.
