Wall Climbing Gecko Inspired Robot

Wallbot

Folks at Carnegie Mellon’s NanoRobotics lab have been working on a gecko inspired robot. The robot works by using 50 micron diameter adhesive footpads, which help it imitate a gecko’s foot.

This allows the robot to climb almost any surface, including walls and ceilings.

See Mike Murphy from Carnegie Mellon interviewed by Engineering TV here or a video on YouTube of the robot here.

See our previous post about the gecko inspired robot here and note how the design has radically changed.

The robot is called Waalbot, but shouldn’t it really be called WALL-E?
