iHop The Robot
Ok, this calls for a really good joke about robots and iHop the restaurant, but we couldn’t think of one. Please leave one in the comments.
Christopher Schmidt-Wetekam from the Jacobs School of Engineering has taken off the shelf parts and made a robot that hops.
The hopping robot runs on wheels and can also jump and twist in mid-air. This is thanks to the robots gyroscopes and accelerometers. iHop also uses estimation and stabilization algorithms to help stabilize itself.
iHop was presented at the Jacobs School of Engineerings annual Research Expo on Feb. 21 and took top honors. Check out the video here.
