EATR Robot Hunts For Food

picture-110A new robot called EATR or the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot is being developed by RTI and being funded DARPA. The goal of this project is to create a robot for long range missions without the need for conventional refueling. The robot will be able to get ‘food’ on it’s own. RTI states the robot will be able to: Identify suitable biomass sources of energy and distinguish those sources from unsuitable materials (e.g., wood, grass, or paper from rocks, metal, or glass)
Spatially locate and manipulate the sources of energy (e.g., cut or shred to size, grasp, lift, and ingest); and
Convert the biomass to sufficient electrical energy to power power the EATR subsystems .
The robot will have four main systems, with the heart of the robot being a
biomass engine provided by Cyclone Power.
1. Robotic mobility platform
2. Autonomous control system/sensors
3. Robotic arms and end effectors
4. External combustion engine
This is the first step to robot autonomy and the inevitable robot uprising.

How does it transform the energy from the living biomass into another state of energy which it then can use to fuel the EATR?

Source of power for EATR™: new hybrid external combustion engine system from Cyclone Power Technology Inc. Integrated with a biomass combustion chamber to provide heat energy for the engine .

So, on a battlefield, this guy could feed on corpses. Wonderful. What might it do if it couldn’t find one? Did they give it a need for survival?

Isn´t it wonderful that a Robot is made that violates the 3 laws of Robotics. These robots sound nice for war but what other sinister plot will they be used for? Do they have genetic specific capabilities to kill one group and not another? Is this how they distinguish the good guys from the bad? Are they going to be used against americans to get their guns because most military won´t fire upon americans? Is this Skynet and robots become aware mixing A.I. and biological entities making them killing machines. Wow to us …

We’re a long way from T-800s, put down your comic books. Imagine a bomb sniffer or mine sweeper that can run across huge sections of grasslands for days and days. Or a support convoy/escort that can handle the long hauls between cities without wasting power carrying it’s own fuel. Real life is much less exciting than science fiction. Roombas for everyone!

I’d wake up soon my friend. If you think the New World Order (global elite) aren’t planning on using this stuff against us, you’ll wake up one day being hunted by a robot that wants to eat you.
Truth is stranger than fiction. Welcome to the Twilight Zone. t r u t h n e w s d o t u s

you can’t tell, but I’m rolling my eyes.
grow up and stop with the fantasies, conspiracy theories and nonsense. this is the kind of crap kids dream up while they should be paying attention in math class, or druggies think of while on an LSD high. it would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic.
please do the world a favor and do one of two things: 1) kill yourself, or 2) get a life.
preferably option 1.
but of course, you already know that I’m a member of the NWO, and I’m really just trying to get you to commit suicide, so we can use your corpse to feed our death robots, which will soon be used to herd the hapless, unthinking citizens to our FEMA death-camps.

How sweet. Kill-bots that can live off the land. Who would want to fight with us if we had such weapons? They would have to think about being kia by a machine that then eats them. Ick. I wonder how far we are from bio-weapons that can id and take out individual ethnics by genes, body chemistry or some other physical feature. n tht klls gy lchlc Ltns nd lv ll the rst ln?

Hi! I’m one of the engineers working on EATR, and just wanted to let you know that EATR has no ability to deal with protiens – meat – at all. It can only “digest” or process plant material, and it prefers dried out leaves, twigs, and branches-in other words, dead plants. We don’t have any way to convert animal parts into energy. You can see more at my blog, http://mrrobot0.blogspot.com. We do appreciate that you found our project interesting.

the original title of the news article straight from Foxnews was “Military EATR Robot Could Feed On Dead Bodies On Battlefield”, now all articles have been revised and link to foxnews revision titled “Biomass-Eating Military Robot Is a Vegetarian, Company Says”. you better believe they are going to set these out on the american citizens, along with drones and other AI so the 13 families can sit on their @sses while everyone is converted into fuel, even their low, middle, and upper level minions will fall victim and they will sit back and laugh. Military and Police need to wake up and spread the truth, just cause you are working for them now, doesnt mean you wont be killed after they are done using you to carry out their agenda.

hehe, fox news… thanks for that, dynamix. you made my day. haven’t laughed like that in quite a while.
Fox news is nothing but yellow journalism trying to pass itself off as a legitimate news agency.
pro-tip: just because a news company describes itself as “Fair and Balanced”, that doesn’t make it so

Well, all you need is a chemical process that breaks down proteins into simple sugars, right? In other words, a gluconeogenesis process.
So yay, the robot can’t eat corpses – but with some modifications it could dissolve corpses and *drink* them.

First, if you believe anything on Fox News you need to sit down, have a nice cup of tea and chill out. Fox news is to balanced fact what Paris Hilton is to women’s rights.
Second, I don’t understand the above engineer’s remarks about proteins. A protein is a sequence of amino acids, and occurs in all living species be they plant or animal.
Even without the expected hysteria from Sci-Fi fans and people with over-active imaginations, surely DARPA and the manufacturer cannot expect mankind to look favourably on a flesh-eating, gun-toting war machine?! How mental do you have to be to work in the DARPA press-office?!
Parallels with the Terminator franchise aside, I’ll only worry when they can make a robot capable of running up a flight of stairs or walking into a modestly-sized body of water without suffering a total electrocution event.
